Staying Cool

Now that Summer is here, we've been enjoying the splash pads at some of the local parks in order to keep cool in the Florida heat. They did not have these when I was growing up but are quite common at parks now. Once a week, the mom's group I belong to, has a meet up at the Tanja King Park in Avalon. Colby enjoyed getting splashed and playing with some beach toys. At one point he sat on top of the sprayer, giving his diaper a good soaking. His little knees took a beating from crawling all over the concrete. Do they make knee pads for babies? Like his socks and shoes, they probably wouldn't stay on anyways.

We visited another splash pad a few weeks ago at Downey Park. It was much bigger. We met a fiend there and arrived early before it even opened. However, we didn't stay long. A huge summer camp arrived and bombarded the place. There had to be over a hundred school aged kids running and screaming through the water sprays. Little Colby would have been trampled if we stayed.

First Haircut

Jason likes to keep his hair cut short and couldn't stand the curly locks on the back of Colby's head. I finally gave in and let him cut his son's hair over Father's Day.

Creepy Crawly

At 10 months, Colby has finally decided to start crawling! He was happy to sit in one spot and play for so long. I realize now that he was actually being kind to me by waiting to crawl until latter. I have to watch him every minute to make sure he isn't getting into something he shouldn't. He's already found the electronics under the TV and has played with the stereo buttons and daddy's XBOX360. He turned on the outdoor speakers on the porch last week. He is hearing the word "no" a lot lately. Now when he crawls over to the entertainment center, he will look at us before he touches, but he still touches. Yesterday, he crawled from the bedroom to the kitchen which is across the house. He is also pulling up on me and the furniture.

Also, this week, he is really become a little "monkey-see-monkey-do." He will imitate sounds on command with his mouth such as raspberries and motorboats which has really been fun. He really cracked us up yesterday when we were all outside and Tucker was panting. Colby opened his mouth, stuck out his tongue and began breathing in and out of his mouth!

First Boat Ride

Last month, over the Memorial Weekend, we visited my parents in Kentucky My dad had recently gotten a new pontoon boat. We went for a ride on Lake Barkley. This was Colby's first time on a boat. We strapped him into a life jacket which was a bit bulky for his size. We're not sure what he thought since he could barely move or see. He just sat and barely made a peep.

Window "Creeper"

Colby thought it was so funny that he could see me through the glass door but couldn't actually touch me. He would aggressively pound on the glass and get as close to me as they barrier would allow. Which meant squishing his cute little face against the glass until he looked like a pig! Such amusement. Now, where is the Windex?
