Nothing like postpartum to motivate you to get back into shape! During pregnancy, it is crazy to see your weight climb week after week and not have any control over it. First trimester I craved comfort foods. I'd want Bubaloo's Bodacious BBQ in the late evening. I remember wondering if they were still open at 10:30 PM. I also loved burritos from Tijuana Flats. I actually added their # to my cell phone contacts because I'd drive past one on my way home from work. I'd call ahead and place my to-go order and run in with Colby to pick it up.
My first 8 weeks I gained 10 pounds - which is not good, because you should only gain about 3-5 in the first trimester. The last trimester is when you gain a pound a week. In the end it all worked out and I gained about 30 pounds, about the same as the first pregnancy. A combination of working full time and keeping up with a 3 year old, I'm sure helped me from packing on anymore.

8 months pregnant with Hayden

The day Hayden was born, my doctor told me he guaranteed a 10 pound weight loss, as I lied on the operating table. After the surgery, when they were moving me onto a gurney to leave the OR, I
accidentally saw a 5 gallon bucket full of birth slop. Not sure how much that weighed but it was overwhelmingly a lot. Thankfully the good drugs kept me in check, otherwise my normal reaction would have been to pass out. Between removing a 7.5 pound baby and a ton of slop, I felt/looked about 4 months pregnant when I arrived to my hospital room. Followed by 12 hours of a liquid diet and then 24 hours of a soft diet. Oh, and I wasn't allowed to eat anything 12 hours before the surgery, no water or even gum.
When we arrived home, 4 days later, I couldn't wait to step on the scale and see my new weight. I was baffled that I weighed only one pound less than the day I went to the hospital! The same thing happened with Colby, It is crazy that I shouldn't weigh less. Water retention from the IV was the cause. The first two weeks home, I was loosing more than a pound a day just from peeing. After loosing 20 pounds with no effort at all, I've hit a wall. So now I've been working at loosing the remaining weight so I can fit back into my
pre-pregnancy clothes and be ready for Summer.
The day we came home from the hospital.

About 5 times a week, I walk to the park with both boys. Hayden is worn on me in a
Moby Wrap (thanks Michelle). It is exactly .75 miles. I know this because Run Keeper has been helping me to keep track of my distance, pace and calories burned. Over the past 3 weeks I've walked 22 miles at an average pace of 19 min/per mile. (Remember I'm wearing a 10 lb. baby and encouraging a 3 year old to keep peddling his bike.) We meet up with either our friends or introduce ourselves to new ones. Colby is very social, he will talk to anyone. When you are wearing a baby, people are naturally friendly towards you. Every trip is an adventure.
Biking to the park

Another reason for our walks, is that it helps to tire Colby out so when we return home he is ready for a nap. I'm hoping to step-up my exercise soon with jogging. I want to really make use of my Run Keeper ap., after I'm all cleared at my postpartum check up next week.
